Researchers from the UK and India are initiating a study to reduce the overprescription of antibiotics in dentistry
A pilot project has been launched in Leeds (UK) and Chennai (India) to reduce the practice of overprescribing antibiotics in dentistry Dental Tribune UK & Ireland. The research is being conducted by scientists from the University of Leeds and Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research.

The initiative provides dentists with guidance and resources, including checklists and educational materials. After the educational session, doctors began prescribing analgesics instead of antibiotics after routine procedures, such as tooth extractions, when there was no inflammation. This is an important step in the fight against the global problem of antibiotic resistance. The project shows that education and communication with specialists can change the behavior of doctors – a decrease in antibiotic prescriptions was confirmed in control groups.
